HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH WITH LOS UBERS

October 10, 2018

I recently visited Chicago thanks to the Los Ubers team and was able to be a part of their Hispanic Heritage game night at their office. Upon arriving to the office, we were greeted by the staff and had a short tour. We then went to the area where they were holding the game night and started our night! Everything was so festive; they had foosball, Jenga, Ping-Pong, Dominos, Loteria, Latin food, drinks, and so much more. One of the fun games was the quiz group game they had every hour with everyone involved. It consisted of testing our knowledge of the Latino culture.

Being the competitive person that I am, I was so excited for this game! The staff was so kind, from Los Ubers’ team leads Joseline and Erlinda, to the guy who taught me how to properly play dominos and all the girls who made me feel welcomed when playing Loteria.

To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect upon arriving. Would the staff be nice? Would they be welcoming? Would they feel pressured to act a certain way because I was there? But to my surprise, none of that came to mind once I was actually there. At one point, I forgot I was there with Uber and it began to feel like I was just with friends or family. I caught myself for a moment and realized… this IS what Hispanic Heritage is all about.

Growing up when my grandma would cook her huge soups in front of the house, everyone was welcomed. It didn’t matter what age, gender, color, or ethnicity you were. That’s how it felt here as well. It felt like a real family. I also noticed that not everyone in the room was Hispanic. To me, that showcased that Los Ubers is working on displaying what our heritage truly represents. Family.

They took in all the other employees who wanted to be a part of this night and included them as well as my self and the rest of the team that came to visit. What I came to find out is that they do these events regularly to celebrate the Latin culture and continue to push a happy and knowledgeable community. At the end of the day, if you feel welcomed, happy, and appreciated in your work place, you’ll always execute the task placed in front of you more effectively.
