HOW TO MAKE TIME TO WORK OUT

July 26, 2017
WORK OUT

Working out sometimes can be hard. Especially if you work in entertainment industry like myself where you don’t necessarily have a set schedule of a 9-5. I work crazy hours and it’s pretty unpredictable. Maybe you’re a working mom or a full-time student with a job which also makes it hard for you to find time. I’ve realized that if you really want to make a change, you can make time even if it’s in small ways at first. I’m the first person that will admit that I quit easily when it comes to working out if I put too many expectations. But the benefits that we get from working out are so beneficial to our well-being that I made it a priority a few months ago and thought I’d share as they’ve been working for me.

See below some ideas to help you work out!
  • Schedule it like a doctors/meeting appointment! – You may be thinking what?! But think about it; when you schedule doctor appointments, you don’t cancel them right? You make time, no matter what. Put it in your calendar as if its one or a business meeting. Holding myself accountable makes it easier for me. For example, one of the Pilates studios I attend has a policy that if I cancel less than 24 hours in advance, I get charged $25. I don’t want to throw money down the drain but I do have a crazy schedule. So, I schedule my classes the day of to make sure I have an hour and a half open to drive, attend, come home and change and continue my day. Once I press “book” I know I have to go.
  • Start Slowly! – I don’t know about you guys, but when I usually get into my “workout” habits I usually go so hard the first two days and then I quit either because I’m too sore or because I get overwhelmed. So start slowly! Maybe a cardio and light weights day. Then the following days mix it up with targeting different parts of the body so you can spread it out.
  • Find a buddy! – This really helped me before. My friend Akari and I use to work out together with our trainer. It gave me motivation and made it fun. We both would motivate each other and when one was not feeling it that day, we would snap the other one out of it.
  • Try a fun class! – I get so bored at the gym! This is great if you can’t find a friend to workout with. It’s what I’ve been doing for almost 6 months and I love it. I usually opt for signing up for a class of some sort. Pilates, sometimes Hot Yoga, Boxing, and when I’m feeling adventurous I’ll try something fun like silks or a new crazy workout! Classes are also fun because there are different teachers with different techniques, you meet people, and you have some friendly competition.
  • Take your time, there’s no rush! – As much as I suggest you make a schedule so you can follow it, I also suggest if you know you can’t give 7 days a week to workout… It’s okay! Start with maybe 3/4 days a week and once you’ve mastered those see if you can add a day little by little! Sometimes I have weeks where I can go everyday and others I end up being able to only make it 3 times a week. It’s okay, the point is to not stop entirely and continue to make it a priority.
  • Workout at home! – With technology there’s so many apps, videos, and shows that help you work out. Most of the time all you need is a mat! Target sells them both for super cheap and they have cute ones! My friend and celebrity trainer Agostina has a few DVD’s that will make you feel like you’ve been in the gym for 3 hours in 30 minutes which I love for the days I have only just that amount of time to workout.
  • Workout outside! – Living in Miami and LA makes it great as there is endless places to jog to, ride a bike, skate, and hike. See what things your city offers that can be fun and relaxing while still being active.
  • Happier You: Some may think “oh, I’ll be happy because I’m skinny?” NO. With exercising comes releasing toxins, endorphins, and balancing your hormones.
    • Exercising increases the production of Dopamine. Dopamine, is a chemical in the brain that makes us HAPPY.
    • It helps with anxiety which I deal with.
    • It boosts your confidence when you begin to see results!
  • Rule of thumb: It takes the human around 3 months for something to become a habit and I can guarantee you that if you stick to this for 3 months you will see results to want you to continue for 3 more months when you hit 3 months and next thing you know, that’s half the year! It’ll become a part of your routine and you would have now made it “normal” to always work it in.
